How Do You Lock an App with a Passcode on iPhone?
To lock an app with a passcode on iPhone, go to Settings, tap Screen Time, and set up an App Limit for the app you want to restrict. Once the limit is reached, opening the app requires your Screen Time passcode. This works for any app on your phone — not just Apple Music.
Why Would You Lock an App on Your iPhone?
There are a lot of good reasons to require a passcode before an app opens. Parents commonly use this to limit kids' access to music, social media, or games. It also works well for anyone who wants to reduce the habit of opening certain apps automatically, or for business owners who share a phone and want to keep some areas restricted.
In this J's Tech Corner video, I use Apple Music as the example — but the same steps apply to any app installed on your iPhone.

How to Require a Passcode to Open an App on iPhone (Step by Step)
The tool that makes this work is Screen Time, which is built into every iPhone running iOS 12 or later.
Open the Settings app on your iPhone and tap Screen Time. If you have not used Screen Time before, tap Turn On Screen Time and follow the prompts. You will be asked to set a Screen Time passcode — this is the passcode that will be required to open the restricted app, so choose something different from your regular iPhone passcode.
Once Screen Time is active, tap App Limits, then tap Add Limit. Browse or search for the app you want to restrict — in my example, Apple Music. Select it, then set the daily time limit to one minute. This creates a limit that kicks in almost immediately and requires the Screen Time passcode to bypass.
Now when you try to open Apple Music, it will prompt for the passcode before letting you in.
Does This Work for Any App?
Yes — the Screen Time App Limits feature works for any app installed on your iPhone, including social media apps, games, streaming apps, and more. You can set limits on individual apps or entire categories of apps at once.
